Joe Somoza

"I had a poem in the recent Harwood Anthology (eds. Susan McAllister & Becky Holtzman. Albuquerque, 2006), and will have a new chapbook, "Back Talk", from Coyote Books sometime soon."

The Life

Ah, to feel irreverent!

To sit in a pool of quiet and not

contemplate

but just consider where

to go for lunch,

or how a certain person can be

that bitchy.

And do we care?

We'll wear whatever

falls into our hands,

eat bread with something on it,

lie down at an odd, or even,

angle, and if together,

not sleep at all,

but think of something better.

Then next morning, rise

before the sun,

sit drinking coffee in a kitchen

with a toaster,

and a curtain

open to some back yard that's

un-manicured

and no one else's business.
