on the path at tent rocks
this day of my birth
I cultivate the light
celebrate my life
what does it mean
bemused I cannot say
all my dreams
of trauma of drama
give stories to each
now beneath the stirring trees
I feel the cooling breeze
a fluttering of wings
beneath the limestone cones
* * *
spring brings the smell
of russian olive trees
heady a little at a time
strong the wind begins
I breathe deeply
as you go
not asking why
I know
