Doug Craft

Doug Craft is a 52 year old Colorado artist who creates collage, photography, and paintings that explore sacred geometry and the fractal structure of nature with forms based on the Golden Ratio. Besides appearing as a proportion throughout nature, the Golden Ratio has been understood and used as a formal element by artists throughout history. Doug

studied art at the University of West Florida with Duncan Stewart and was strongly influenced by the Bauhaus artists, especially Kandinsky's ideas

about the spiritual in art.

Thematically, Doug's recent collages juxtapose abstract images of the external world from several levels of magnification, applying the concept of a 'collage of backgrounds.' The images seen here are from a recent series of collages, 'The Elements in Golden Ratio,' an exploration of the classical elements earth, air, fire, and water. Also displayed are images from a large series of recent microphotographs of chemical crystals.

Doug has exhibited frequently in Denver and has been a member of 'CORE New Art Space,' a respected co-op gallery. In 2003, he organized an exhibition, 'Sacred Geometry 2003,' that involved the creation of five collaged Golden Rectangle paintings with four other Denver artists. In 2005, nine large prints of his Golden Rectangle collages were installed in the Winship Cancer Institute at Emory University in Atlanta. Doug's

website, http://www.dougcraftfineart.com, displays all his artwork, and includes one of the largest archives (over 500 images) of microphotographs on the Internet.
