BIG OLAF

Big Olaf

the stump puller

likes to work alone

likes to

choose a topic, a mystery

to chew on with his mind

today’s is

expecting miracles

the rain was light but steady

the temperature, maybe 59

the sky gray, the lawn beneath

his big brown boots

green and slick

rich black dirt already

ready to churn into mud

Big Olaf liked

his big brown boots

about six inches

above the ground

he liked to keep himself elevated

 he found

contemplation

one good way

to stay high

today’s stump

was a big sucker

taller than he was

more a trunk than a stump

the wind blew the rain

right at him

as he stepped carefully

back to his truck

miracles, huh
